My name is Rob MacArthur from The CBD Curators. I’ve written this letter for your education. Recently, I opened a CBD store at 180 Bedford Street, in Stamford, CT, hopefully, the first of many. If after reading this, we would like you to refer patients to us that might benefit from quality, low cost CBD. I am constantly vetting and offering new products for high efficacy.
CBD, cannabidiol, was legalized in 2018, is an extract derived from the hemp plant (Sativa L). There are over 100 cannabinoids with various healing properties. We are not doctors. Here are the top 50 conditions CBD is known to treat supported by academic research from around the world. Almost 62% of CBD users reported using CBD to treat a medical condition. The top three medical conditions were pain, anxiety, and depression.
We spent a year, reading COA’s, researching and vetting products with the highest cannabinoid content we could find. We found there is actually quite a bit of scientific research available about the benefits of CBD for a variety of conditions. Not all of it is available in the United States; in fact, Israel, through Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, is ahead of the curve. Here is a national database of clinical trials with CBD.
On a personal note, I’ve had 3 lower back surgeries over 35 years. In January of 2019, I walked into a CBD store, thinking I would give it a try. Not only did my pain go away within days, but CBD significantly reduced the withdrawal symptoms from the daily 30 milligrams of Oxycodone I had been taking. Here is a recently study showing CBD can reduce Opioid craving. One survey showed 39% of Opioid users completely stopped using CBD.
CBD is a strong anti-inflammatory and helped swelling from scar tissue. CBD is being studied for use against opiate addiction. No amount of pilates, yoga or massage could relieve me of the chronic muscle spasms in my lower back. Yet, in <6 weeks, I was completely off the opiates with minimal withdrawal. Our 600 mg topical is potent.
The FDA has had the tough job of going after CBD companies that make false claims. Some weaker players often make outrageous claims such as CBD can cure Covid-19. But we have found one fact: In states where marijuana has been legalized, opiate prescriptions are down meaningfully. The barriers to entry for CBD retailers will increase over time. We require our vendors to provide proof of 3rd party testing for: THC content, pesticides, microbes, and heavy metals.
I am to learning about the potential benefits of CBD. I spent 2019 researching CBD, leading us to meet many testing labs, extractors, and farmers all with knowledge the various strains of hemp. Through lots of trial and error, I vetted dozens of company’s products. I have a transdermal patch that works for 12 hours almost as well as fentanyl – with no side effects.
CBD is not approved by the FDA and may never be; however, we believe, there is a growing body of anecdotal evidence that is so compelling that the market will eventually weed out the fraud and the true players will emerge. A plant with the entourage effect can’t be patented easily. Over time, I think there will be improved regulations over the strains, labeling practices and the extraction process. Unfortunately, the FDA has gone after companies manned by doctors making claims even when their claims were based on some science such as cancer.
Scientific and clinical studies are needed as they underscore CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrated neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.
I know from our web site traffic that customers are very interested in dosing. There is a titration period. We have had customers come to our store that have complained about sciatic pain, in two cases, with known herniated discs, that are refusing surgery and found relief. One woman, walked in with a cane one day, in severe distress, and came back a couple of days later without the cane in all smiles. Less is more when it comes to dosing. A high dose appears to have reduced efficacy, making it difficult to overdose. In very rare cases, the reported side effects for CBD are: nausea, drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, anxiety and tremors.
People are finding their own ways to use CBD. For example, two women that sampled a muscle rub used on their temples for migraine headaches. I know use of vaginal suppositories is becoming popular. One Vietnam vet with COPD took CBD for anxiety and reported a dramatic reduction in the inflammation of his lungs, which significantly reduced the need for inhalers. Eventually, we think the growth in anecdotal evidence will prove vital information to the medical community irrespective of the FDA. The CBD market is expected to witness growth at a rate of 31.90% for the period of 2020 to 2027. We want to be a part of that future and part of the community. I am making you part of our community.
Senior citizens in pain represent a fast growing demographic of CBD users. While many people believe CBD is marijuana and is more of a millennials product. Almost one in five Americans over 50 now uses some kind of CBD product, according to a recent Gallup poll. Seniors can truly benefit from CBD. We received the following testimonial from a retired football player.
